Like Starbucks, I remember the day when Rick Steves was strictly a local phenomenon in the Seattle area. He was giving travel slide shows through the Experimental College at the University of Washington around 1985. My wife (whom I was dating at the time) and I attended one of his shows and we immediately knew he was someone with a point of view we shared. We also thoroughly enjoyed his travel presentation and could see that he had the potential to go very, very far.
It’s almost funny when you compare then to now. But there was a time when if you were experiencing long distance air travel, or any air travel for that matter, you obviously checked your bags. To not do so and have just carry-on, traveling “light” as it were, was considered odd and eccentric if not downright suspicious.
Traveling “light” was a POV Steve promoted and to us he was “singing to the choir”. So if you’re looking for the perfect “travel light” luggage and a site that promotes a philosophy of “off the beaten path” travel experiences that enable you to truly mingle with the native population, you will do yourself a great favor by visiting Steve’s site and becoming a regular visitor.
And here’s a link that will take you straight to the great travel bags, including the classic carry-on I continue to use after almost 25 years.
Bon Voyage!
